Marcus Pereira de Freitas, Director General del Team HRC de MXGP, ha vivido un inicio de temporada 2023 con muchos altibajos. Después de haber estado en lo más alto en el Mundial de MXGP con Tim Gajser en 2022, el Team HRC sufrió un importante revés cuando el esloveno, cinco veces Campeón del Mundo, sufrió una lesión en una carrera de pretemporada y se perderá las seis o siete primeras rondas del campeonato de este año.

El equipo vio entonces como Rubén Fernández hacía su primera aparición con el equipo en la prueba inaugural del Gran Premio de Argentina y se hacía con una victoria muy sorprendente.

Obviamente tuvisteis el comienzo de la temporada con esa sorprendente victoria de Rubén en Argentina. ¿Puede explicarnos qué sentiste?

Pereira de Freitas: Argentina fue un evento increíble para nosotros. Rubén fue allí y pilotó magníficamente, y ganar la segunda manga fue un gran logro, pero luego ganar la general fue una gran inyección de confianza para él y para todo el equipo. ¡Qué comienzo para Rubén en el Team HRC! Ha trabajado muy duro durante el invierno para estar en esta posición, así que se merece un gran reconocimiento. No lo puso fácil después de la primera carrera, pero salió y pilotó impecablemente en la segunda, llevándose la victoria y la general. Ha sido una actuación impresionante, una gran manera de empezar el año y un gran momento para todo el equipo, que trabaja muy duro para hacer posible momentos como éste.

¿Incluso el sábado en Argentina se le vio muy fuerte?

Todos estamos muy contentos con la actuación de Rubén. Nunca es fácil empezar en un equipo nuevo, y especialmente con un gran público apoyándole, podría haberse puesto nervioso fácilmente, pero estaba tranquilo y relajado y salió a rodar realmente bien. El cuarto puesto no solo le da los siete puntos para el campeonato, sino también la cuarta puerta para las dos mangas, así que nos preparamos la carrera para que pudiera sacar el máximo partido a la situación”.

¿El sábado en Riola Sardo fue bueno, mejor de lo esperado después de las últimas carreras de Rubén en arena?

En general, fue un día muy bueno para Rubén y para el equipo. Demostrado sus habilidades en arena y estamos muy contentos con su pilotaje en las tres sesiones. Cada vez que salía a la pista mejoraba más y más, desde la 11ª posición en los entrenamientos libres hasta la quinta en los cronometrados, y luego estuvo entre los cinco primeros durante la mayor parte de la carrera de clasificación, cayendo solo a la sexta posición cuando intentó adelantar al segundo clasificado a un par de vueltas del final.

El domingo, sin embargo, no fue bien y fue muy difícil para el equipo y para Rubén.

Desafortunadamente, fue un día difícil una vez más en Cerdeña. Riola Sardo no se ha portado bien con el equipo HRC, pero no vamos a insistir en ello y nos centraremos en hacer las cosas bien en Suiza en la próxima carrera. Rubén sabe de lo que es capaz, y ha dado muy buenas muestras a lo largo del fin de semana, así que el talento está ahí, sólo ha cometido errores en el momento equivocado y en esta pista eso se paga muy caro.
