La renovada marca británica rediseña y actualiza su V4. El nuevo modelo, que pasará a llamarse V4SV estará disponible en dos versiones diferentes.

Mucho han cambiado las cosas desde que salió al mercado la primera superbike V4 de 1200cc de Norton hace cinco años. Desde ese estreno hasta ahora, la situación dentro de la empresa ha dado tal vuelta que ni siquiera los dueños son los mismos.

La marca fue adquirida hace un tiempo por la empresa india TVS, que desde entonces ha relanzado Norton como una nueva empresa con nuevas instalaciones: la Norton Motorcycles (UK) Ltd. que todos conocíamos pasó a convertirse en The Norton Motorcycle Co. Ltd.

Cuando la nueva empresa estudió los problemas de la V4 original, se dio cuenta de que estos eran demasiado graves como para poder solucionarlos. De 35 defectos encontrados, 20 de ellos se consideraban críticos para la seguridad, por lo que directamente decidieron no intentar reparar estas motos. Ahora, tras más de un año de trabajo, la nueva empresa ha publicado las primeras imágenes y detalles de su nueva moto, que pasará a llamarse V4SV y estará disponible en dos versiones: una Manx con menos especificaciones y un modelo Carbon más caro.

Lo cierto es que este nuevo modelo contará con los mismos elementos principales que antes. El estilo de la carrocería de carbono es el mismo que el anterior y su chasis de aluminio soldado con TIG también ha sido hecho a mano. En cambio, el motor – que esencialmente también será el mismo V4 a 72 grados - pasará de 200 CV a 185 CV. Una reducción que posiblemente tiene que ver con el hecho de que la marca pretende hacer de la V4SV una auténtica moto de carretera.

Norton prepara una nueva versión de la V4

Las especificaciones disponibles para esta nueva moto no muestran grandes cambios en el motor, que mantiene la misma configuración de doble inyector por cilindro, válvulas de admisión de titanio y embrague anti-rebote. Aunque su potencia se reduce de 200 CV a 185, las rpm se mantienen en 12.500. En cambio, el par motor alcanzará un pico de 1.000 rpm más bajo, quedándose en las 9.000 rpm.

Además, el fabricante pretende equiparla con un escape más grande, más silencioso y más limpio para su uso en carretera. Algo que explicaría el aumento de peso en seco que tiene el nuevo modelo, ya que de los 179 kg que pesaba antes pasará a 193 kg. 

La nueva V4SV también mantendrá el bastidor, los frenos Brembo y las suspensiones Öhlins del modelo anterior con horquilla NIX 30 y amortiguador TTX GP. Este modelo también contará con una electrónica que incluye tres modos de conducción, una cámara de visión trasera, encendido sin llave y control de tracción sensible a la inclinación.

La versión Manx cuenta con pintura plateada y llantas de aleación forjadas Oz Racing de color rojo. Por su parte, el modelo Carbon tiene carbono a la vista y está equipada con llantas BST de fibra de carbono. De momento se desconoce cuál será su precio pero en el Reino Unido la V4SS original - un modelo introductorio de edición limitada- alcanzó las 44.000 libras (unos 51.700 euros al cambio) y la V4RR - la versión prevista para la producción en serie – tenía un precio de 28.000 libras (unos 33.000 euros).
