Igual te pasó lo mismo que a mí y no tenías muy claro qué es un Honda Motocompo, con un nombre así no es de extrañar que se trate de un modelo diferente… Este scooter plegable (a la marca siempre le ha gustado la miniaturización) se vendió entre 1981 y 1983. Honda nunca había puesto a la venta un vehículo tan pequeño, que plegado se convertía en un rectángulo, lo que facilitaba su almacenamiento.

Como no podía ser menos, en Japón hay algunos aficionados que no solo son grandes entusiastas del modelo, sino que lo transforman como si se tratase de una Harley-Davidson o una BMW bóxer. En la feria Yokohama Hot Rod Custom Show (HCS), el mayor evento de este tipo en el país del Sol Naciente, se han visto algunas imaginativas preparaciones basadas en el Honda Motocompo.

El ciclomotor utilizaba un motor monocilíndrico de 2T y 49 cc, refrigerado por aire, que rendía 2,5 CV. La longitud total de la bestia se quedaba en los 1185 mm y el peso en seco no pasaba de los 42 kg. Sí, Honda siempre ha tenido una querencia por lo minúsculo… El Motocompo estaba diseñado para poder ser transportado en el maletero de un coche y, de tal manera, que no hubiese peligro. Se podía tumbar sin que perdiese gasolina o aceite o la batería dejase de funcionar.

Los compañeros de motor-fan.jp han realizado un divertido reportaje sobre algunas de la preparaciones con base Honda Motocompo que se vieron en el Yokohama Hot Rod Custom Show. En la actualidad, el scooter, que se dejó de fabricar hace 40 años, goza de una gran demanda en Japón y se pagan buenas sumas por un ejemplar en perfecto estado.

Las transformaciones afectan tanto a la parte estética como a la mecánica. A menudo el motor original se cambia por otro de mayor cilindrada y refrigerado por líquido, lo que obliga también a modificar la parte ciclo. A lo que se le añade frenos de disco y neumáticos anchos para las ruedas de 8 pulgadas. Algunas unidades, con motores de 2T de 149 cc, llegan a entregar 40 CV de potencia.

El Motocompo no deja de ser un ladrillo con ruedas, y al ir completamente carrozado se puede decorar con los emblemas de cualquier multinacional, como si se tratase de una MotoGP: FedEx, McDonald’s, Dr Pepper… Los entusiastas de este modelo nos recuerdan que el motociclismo no tiene casi límites, cualquier cosa con motor y dos ruedas puede ser el pasaporte a la felicidad.
